Title: Odometer rollback?  Too blue?
Post by Scott2.0 on 06/09/11 at 15:05:33

I just got my 2004 LS650 on Tuesday with 954 miles on it.  It now shows a little over 1,000.  This never crossed my mind when I was checking it out but could a bike with less than 1k on it show this much blue?  Did I get shafted?  It's too late now but it's making me wonder.  Sorry for the blurry pics.

They'll blue quite quickly if they have wax or oil on them.
And 1000 miles is enough time to turn a hot pipe blue.
Someone said 15 minute warm up was all it took for him.

Thanks, that makes me feel much better.

I had 5,000 miles on mine, No Blue,, I was sitting in the drive, listening to the valves, racked the gas a few times & when I looked down, the pipe looked like yours.. & I was PISSTAWFF... but, I got used to it quick enough,, Now, I think its looking good..

Different altitudes maybe?  I pulled the brass cap of the idle mixture screw and turned it out about 3/4 of a turn but I still think I'm running a bit lean.

15,000 miles on my '06, not a hint of discoloration.

What's it doing when you shut off?

When I shut it off it backfires.  Maybe not a full backfire but more like a puff of air.  Also, when cruising around 30-35mph in 3rd it seems to hesitate every so often which leads me to believe it's fuel starved.  I know that could be caused by a million other things though.

way too rich I guess. I had mine richened when I bought it new and 45,000 miles later the only bluing I have is maybe 1/2 inch from the header.
