Title: thinking of a flyscreen
Post by Bubba on 06/08/11 at 06:42:22

Does anyone currently use this on our little thumper? Does anyone have any pics? How is it for around town and occassional quick trips up on the freeway?
Any input would be welcome.
Thanks

Yes, I am.

originally put it on expecting to switch it out for a full size during the winter.  1st year I did, never again.

Thanks! I went ahead and bought it. New, free shipping and a coupon code for 102.00
I mainly plan to use it to knock some of the wind off my chest. I'm pretty light (145lb) and when I get up to about 60-65 I can feel the pressure on my body.

yeah it's a little pricey but if it helps with fatigue when I take some rides up to our place in the mountains I think it's worth it.

The way I look at purchases these days is to figure out how many tanks of gas it costs to fill up my SUV...this purchase is equivalent to about 1 1/4 tanks in that gas hog...and that only gets me through about 2 weeks!!!
:)

Got mine used for about $50

They're so adjustable that just about any model for any bike will do.
Mine was for a BMW and all I had to do was put in missing rubber padding on the clamps.  I used an old hand grip that I had cut off.

With a naked bike, I'm comfortable to about 50.  With the flyshield I'm comfortable till 70.  After that I gotta duck a little.   8-)

I also have the sportshield which I adjust so that my helmet is still in the airstream.  It's easily twice as big for the same effect.

Yeah I agree completely.  Up to 50 is great but at higher speeds the wind gets obnoxious.  I got a road shield on mine, (moderate size) and it is great around town and OK for the highway.   I love it and only wish I had gotten a BIGGER windshield.

Summertime I usually run naked.  If I'll be making a freeway trip I'll slip on the Flyscreen.  It takes the wind pressure off the body and allows sustained 70+ without fatique.  Goggles required.

Winter riding, and on tour, I mount the Street Shield.  This big boy (17") keeps the cold winter wind from running it's icy fingers down around my neck.  On tour, wind is deflected off the face, allowing riding with mere sunglasses in lieu of windproof goggles.  Mine adjusts to have the wind hitting just above the browline -- wind in the hair, not in the face.

A windshield is on my list of "someday" additions. I don't have one and cruising at speed gets a little wearing.Too bad they are so expensive. :-/

I can't believe I used to ride twice the speed limit with no windshield. Actually took it off my first Kawa H-1 as soon as I got home. 40 yrs later I love my windshield and face shield. I hit two bugs this spring that would more than make the price of the windshield in ER charges. (Not to mention possibly losing an eye.) Just imagine Tom Selleck with a bug scar on his face and tht's how I would look.  :D

I was at the hardware store, gnarly Old dude, some kinda neck problem, his heads always kinda leaned over,, He had been able to help me find several things & helped me solve a couple problems, as I was thanking him for his help & his knowledge, he said
Im not just another pretty face

& I was glad I wasnt drinking anything.

anyway, Boffer, I appreciate a man with a sense of humor,

Thanks to everyone for the input...I received it this weekend (really fast shipping and free!) and installed it. So far I've only ridden about 4 miles on the highway and I can tell the difference but it also felt like I was getting buffeted around a bit.
How are most of you adjusting it? I noticed Rob cycle's was adjusted way above the headlight (like I did mine) but the other pics seemed to have it mounted almost flush with the headlight.
I basically, mounted it to line up parallel to the fork rake. I'm 5' 9"
Thanks

TANSTAAFL

Moving the wind away from your body has to somewhere, eh?  Goggles are good.
