Title: Sitting too long?? Post by Sam7.62 on 06/06/11 at 23:13:22 Looking to buy my first bike and found a 00' Savage 650 with 1700ish miles on it. It's running but it sat for quite awhile. They are asking $1500 and won't budge. Is this something I should worry about? Known issues are fork seals leaking and dents on the gas tank. |
Title: Re: Sitting too long?? Post by verslagen1 on 06/06/11 at 23:36:01 kbb says 1625 retail/1055 trade in. pluses are extremely low mileage. minuses are leaking forks. fork seals and oil will run in the neighborhood of $60 a good tank generally runs $150/200 worth it unless you find something else. |
Title: Re: Sitting too long?? Post by Sam7.62 on 06/07/11 at 14:18:47 I don't think I'm up to replacing the seals. I don't want to break it before I even start riding it regularly Thank you for the kbb info. I drove it down the road and back today, didn't go far too.(still learning) The owner said shifting from neutral to first was a bit tough, and the engine sound like a sewing machine. (Adj the valves should fix it?) I didn't really have a problem shifting. Just had to tap the gear shift a few times and it took. |
Title: Re: Sitting too long?? Post by Serowbot on 06/07/11 at 15:38:49 Fork seals may seal back up once they get re-moistened... unless they're real gushers... Definitely do an oil change and valve adjust... You'll get to know her that way... ...and let her know she'll be loved... :-*... |
