Title: Running slow
Post by omar on 06/05/11 at 21:25:39

I bought a 2002 Suzuki Savage a while back.  It's been sitting in my garage for the most part, but I have it up and running again now.  I changed the oil and filter, put in a new battery, spark plug and cleaned the carburator.  The only problem is that it seems to not go any faster than 55-60 mph.

Any suggestions?

It has 9090 miles.  It sat for a little more than 2 years.  I dd run it when I first bought it, it didn't run any faster.  I don't hear anything crazy, but I am not experienced with motorcycles (yet).

I am not trying to be a speed demon, but I do want to make sure that my bike is running appropriately.

Thanks!

Well, I have only one clue to what's wrong... won't go over 60.

I'd say someone's replaced the cam chain and timed it wrong.

How does it run/accellerate up to the point of flat out ?
What does it do when its flat out ?
If it doesn't do anything but seem to run out of hp, I'd be afraid Versl mite be right !

Does the engine wind down quick or do the RPMs slowly drop off when you let off the throttle?

I am going to ride it to work today.  I'll think that it's fine on acceleration.  The rpms drop when I let go of the throttle, but nothing that I think is surprising.  I have the CLYMER service, repair, maintenance book.  I will see if I can figure out the timing tomorrow (I'm not working tomorrow).

Thanks!
Omar
