Title: how to torque header bolt
Post by Howitzer on 05/28/11 at 06:36:15

How do you guys torque the header bolt at the engine block to spec?  I can't fit my torque wrench in there, because the exhaust pipe is in the way.  The pipe bends right around where my torque wrench would sit.  I *could* just use a regular box wrench to tighten the bolts, but the bolts would be tightened to spec.

12" wiggly extension

Doh.  I can't believe I didn't think to try that.  Actually, the 6inch extension worked for me, with a 3/8" drive socket wrench.

In the Clymer manual on page 208 #10, Tighten the exhaust pipe clamp bolts to 13-20 ft lbs. Does anyone interpret that to mean the exhaust header bolts, or the muffler to header pipe clamp bolt(s).

Well, if I had to guess, I'd say because it says "exhaust pipe clamp", it would not mean the "muffler clamp".

I know,.......there I go w/ my logical thinking again !
