Title: Trapp Gap
Post by Mr. Hyde on 05/26/11 at 16:03:11

Has anyone who has installed a Trapp been able to get the muffler to butt right up against the collar on the header pipe. I have a 3/4" gap and can't seem to get it any further.

IMO it shouldn't matter as long as it goes on far enough to be safe and seal tight. It sounds like you are hitting against something inside the new muffler.

The slots are covered... can you get the mounting bolts in?

One is enough... then put the clamp on and ride   8-)

Yep I can get the whole thing bolted up. Onces installed it was back firing and barking something fierce so I went back to square one.

Did you fashion a gasket out of some metal and wrap it around the header pipe inside the muffler? That can cause some backfiring.

As long as the rear bolts will go in, youre okay,, IF you decide to shorten the header a bit, be aware that sparks from a grinder shooting near the battery vent tube can ( & if circumstances are just right), Will create a hydrogen explosion & youll be working for a few hours to clean the battery acid up so it doesnt rust. & Yes, I KNOW what Im talking about,,

I don't understand any of the problems mounting a supertrapp. I just slid the muffler onto the header a bit. clamped it down and it has no leaks or backfires. Lined right up with the real bolt holes. took me all of 5 or 10 minutes to install.

I didnt understand the problems I had either. Ive been doing things more complex than a ding dang muffler swap for decades & was shocked to encounter such an issue, but it simply would not go together, so, I grabbed a grinder,,, & Blooey,, I hadda buy a new battery..

I cut off and inch or two to the header, to get the supertrapp to fit.
I took the header off the bike first.  I can't remember the details, but it wasn't sliding on all the way.

I just recently took it all apart and put it back together with some of
that exhaust sealer stuff, because I think the exhaust was leaking out
one of the slots under the band clamp.
(the one that connects the supertrapp to the header pipe.)

Like the Danas, its a "direct fit".
Now,.....the definition of "direct fit" could start another 6 page thread !

:-[ Sorry, couldn't resist that. ;D
