I opened up my clutch cover today and carefully took the cover off but I think I did this. Is it still okay to reuse?

I would use it, maybe a light film of sealant on it, just cuz.
But then I'm cheap.

Outside edge is where the sealing is done.
That flap just provides stability to the gasket during install.
Trim off the loose edges and hope it don't leak.

clean it with brake parts cleaner, goop it on both sides with modern RTV and it will do OK.

Remember, the RTV will do the job by itself if it is applied to CLEAN (brake parts cleaner type clean) housings on both sides, then finger tighten the bolts until the ooze just starts then take a 24 hour break for the RTV to set up completely before applying the required 60 inch pounds of torque.

I'm one of the cheapest guys on here, but I would go new after going to the trouble to tear it down. And remember that goo squeezed out inside the case can stop up oil circulation. Use just enough--no more. I have not been into mine yet, but this ain't my first rodeo. ;)

Well I put it all back together and it sealed up okay then I realized that I forgot to flip the clutch cable connection at the cover. Woo hoo took everything off and put it back together again haha.

Heres a few pics from the job:

This was the oil from the last oil change! Looked pretty gray right? The second change helped a lot and todays change was the final one. The inside of the clutch cover was slimed with the stuff and it stuck like crazy! It was pretty hard to wipe everything out.

Inside the clutch cover. Apparently I have a guardian angel! Well, not a new chain. If it were it'd be on the 1st hole.

Not sure which oil you're using, but I'd make a few quick changes and get that crud outta there. Might even add some seafoam about an hour before you change it.

Which brings me to this question:

The Seafoam instructions say it is good to add to the oil. Even on that type of clutch??? Who has added seafoam to their oil, how much did they use and how long did they run it for? I use this stuff in the gas tank but I'm scared of putting that in the oil.

Did you add anything to your previous oil, like an additive or something?

That stuff looks discrete. separate and it is not fully miscible with motor oil, so you are looking a silicone type something or else a water based something that has formed an oil/??? emulsion mixture inside your crank case.

I have seen similar stuff build up inside the oil cap of a car that had a bad head gasket (antifreeze and water were getting into the crankcase) but I have never seen the like in an air cooled motorcycle sump.

Keep on changing the oil until the Rotella lifts it all out of the nooks and crannies and gets it all out of there.

Normal automotive grade RTV does NOT make that sort of evil grey stuff.

I have seen radiator stop leak stuff that looked similar, but how could something like that get inside your crankcase?

look at the rust on the counterbalencer bolt and the dark puddles in the crannies, I'm guessing there's been some water in there.

I don't care what kind of oil you use, but I suggest for now putting Rotella Dino in there and running it till it gets clean. Run what you like, but we know Rotella cleans great and won't hurt your clutch. Use it to get that junk out of there and hope the cam is getting oil. Here in the South, there is only one way to store a bike that you don't use anymore. You are supposed to lean it against the side of a barn, shop, or garage directly under the dripline of the roof. Looks like you got a leaner. Lacking a garage or other roofed building you may in an emergency set it outside in a field with a piece of tin to cover the seat and a brick to hold it in place. ;D

Yea, I di that too, but I decide on bendin the clip & makin it flip up,,not pullin the cover,, Skrue Thayutt!

I figured that with my luck I would crack the case if I tried to bend it up haha. There was a lot of gas in the oil for a very long time before I bought the bike so I'm guessing/hoping that's what did it. I do hear some valve noise at high rpms though.

Verslagen came up with a neat trick for when you get your clip oriented wrong -- take a large adjustable wrench and grasp the chrome clutch lever down at the case and move it up in its normal pathway until the clip has clearance to reverse position -- elegant trick that, saves a gasket / teardown.
