Title: Advise needed
Post by jandaso on 05/19/11 at 10:36:05

So I'm ready to take the bike to the next level but first I need guidance. I already talk to lancer to get the stage 1 cams so that's is pretty much covered. Second, I want to go ahead and get the wiseco 97mm piston. I know I need to get the head bored and prep the piston as well before installing it, but what I don't know is if the only thing I need to get is the wiseco 97mm piston kit from the dr650 year 90-95? I have a 2006 savage. Thanks

The piston kit contains all you need to install it.
piston, rings, wrist pin, and retainers.

Just bore the cylinder out to the clearances stated on the box of the piston kit and you're good to go.

Would love to see a step by step tech writeup of entire process if you're willing to document it.

A new head gasket to go with the larger bore.

I will document the whole process and post it here.

I think you (motobuddha) posted a place to get that from, so I will check that out to get one for myself.

I was definitely thinking about doing it. I have seen a lot of settings for the sprockets and the how to. I will have to talk to some people about it to be really sure on what to get because I don't even know where to start.

if you're going that far in you may want to talk to lancer about the vm carb too. Im happy i did. I did the carb cam and overbore. Realistic shift point in 1st while stock was 20-25 and what seems now like an eternity to get to 60. Now Im doing 35 in 1st before shifting no problem. My 0-60 time is about 4-5 seconds. I also did the chain thing, and cast wheels. If you're in a hilly area just keep the belt. The stock ratio really is the best compromise in that situation. If you live somewhere thats relatively flat or if you do a lot of highway/interstate riding, chain is a relatively cheap way to make it a lot more comfortable for you and the bike. Me...I do a lot of twisties/hill climbs and racing from light to light.

I had major clutch slippage after my sup up. Had to go with a barnett clutch.
