Title: 2007 Handlebar options
Post by Kestryll on 05/18/11 at 10:32:02

My Wife has a 2007 S40 and she loves it, all except for one thing.
The handlebars are the 'drag bar' style and a bit too narrow for her.
She wants to keep the drag bar style just a bit wider and maybe a bit more pulled back.

I know the bars are one inch but I'm not sure how the width is measured, from bar end to bar end in a straight line or following the bends of the bar.
I'm also not sure if there are any holes or indents necessary for the controls.

I can't imagine that she is the first to want to change these because they are too narrow, are there any handle bars that are considered a regular upgrade?

Thanks!

I've used the "Buckhorn" handlebars (just bought a drag bar though) and they're quite comfortable.  They pull back more than the drag bar and may be a better suit for her...

Just my two cents.

Not sure if they are measured straight across, but I think so.

Other options are sportster and dyna takeoffs, they can be had for relatively little $$$ and add a few bends pulling them slightly closer to the rider.

Here's a big selection.

That is a huge selection MB.  Nice link!

If I remember right, from when I was looking, they can be measured any way you can imagine.  Just read the details of which ever one you happen to be looking at.

You may want to look into different risers too, just for another possible adjustment factor.

Buy non-dimpled 1" bars. Other than that the sky is the limit. Dremel the locator pins off of the controls.

just like shoppin' for shoes   ;D

Take her down to the local independent
ask to see their selection
tell her to try on a few

a number have said...
sit her on the bike, close her eyes and imagine her ideal bar
now reach out and grab 'em.
measure to the outside of her hands and how high her grip is above the mounts for the bars.

So the Suzuki has locator tabs for the control housings huh?
Will removing those pins affect the ability to snug the housings down?

We thought about that but we just had the dealership fit the factory windshield on to the drag bar risers and she likes it so I've got to figure out how to get her better bars AND keep her windshield.
She's the Wife so I gotta make sure she's happy! ;)

That is exactly what we did!  :)
She needs about an extra 2 inches on each side and back about an inch.
