Title: Valves out of adjustment? Post by Philip on 05/14/11 at 09:07:49 I just bought a 2006 S40 about a month ago. It only had around 1500 miles on it when I bought it and the guy said that it sat for about two years in his barn and rarely rode it. I changed the oil right after buying it and have put about 400 miles on it since. It has been popping a lot when I am slowing down or after heavy acceleration, it sounds about like a gun shot. I also noticed the other day that it had a faint rattling sound during mid-range RPM's, its hard describe but sounds like a very faint-rapid tapping sound and it goes away at low or high RPM. Aside from these two things, it has no other problems. Any thoughts? I was reading that the valves are supposed to be adjusted every 6k miles, could this be the culprit? Is it going to damage my motor if I do not get it adjusted ASAP? Thanks! |

Decel pop is quite common and normal. but check your header bolts and muffler clamp. |
