Title: Vent hose leak
Post by ironhead6241 on 05/13/11 at 15:35:00

The hose coming from the top of the head that runs back to the air box is leaking what seems to be a combination of gas and oil. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this problem. thanks for everyones help.

Is there gas in your crank case?

There seems to be gas coming out with a mixture of oil. What do I need to resolve the issue.

It means your petcock is leaking -- through the fuel line, vacuum line or both -- and that your float needle isn't sealing properly. The gas seeps past the intake valves, into the cylinder, past the rings and into the crankcase.

I have converted it to the raptor conversion petcock. So I don't have the vacum lines hooked up. So I am guessing it is the needle in carb. What do I need to do to fix the issue.

Do you leave the Raptor petcock on all the time?

Still, asking the question.

And is the mixture coming out of the breather hose?
Or is it collecting in the airbox?

Collecting in airbox and tuning out the bottom onto the ground.

Ok, not as bad as you think, more or less normal.
If in great quantity, check your carb for back spitting, take off the rubber ducky between the carb and airbox.  It will run lean so pull the choke.
excessive spitting here could be a tuning issue, improper valve adjustment or your cam is out of time.
you have a raptor petcock and you turn it off when not riding.  good cause the other possibility was the float valve flooding the carb and dripping into the airbox. (always try to park uphill)

"great quantity" may be misleading. There's a drain on the bottom of the airbox. If you drain it once a year you might get a tablespoon full of nasty gunk come out, but if no one has drained it for the past 5, 10, 15 years it basically just sits there with nowhere to go but to get soaked into the airfilter if enough accumulates. Drain the airbox first and ride around a while before you start taking things apart. If it fills up again then you can start dismantling things.

I rode for a little while today. The airbox seems to be filling up with oil Outta the crankcase. So any suggestions were to start.

How many miles on the bike?

How high do you fill the oil?

Do you burn a lot of oil?

I noted on my bike that if I overfilled, I get oil in the airbox.
And I filled it to the top line while held vertical.
My bike also has a lot of miles and I just replaced the piston and rings due to excess oil consumption.

I just bought the bike so I don't know how much oil was in it. I am gonna change oil tomorrow and see if it makes a difference.any suggeron what oil to run. I only rode for about 20 miles and the airbox had about a inch of oil in it.
