Title: Tail lamps and the Law
Post by papi_ocho on 05/09/11 at 13:40:26

I used to have the trailer box mod on my tail light and turn signals a while back. Now I'm looking to change it up. I'm specifically looking for the legal aspect of the following.

I want to run turn signals only, no designated tail light. Much how a utility trailer has only 2 lights that perform double duty.

Is it legal(california)?

Have a read through this site:
http://www.timberwoof.com/motorcycle/lightslaws.html

The guy searched the CA code (http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/calaw.html) and came up with the site I linked you to. I did not read through it myself but it may be of use. Otherwise, the CA Code site should probably provide an answer if no one else here knows.

I want to say that you'd be ok but this is CA you're talking about. ;)

Yes, 2 red running lights, both go bright red for stop, one or the other blinks for signal.  and a license plate light.

Is there anything you don't know?

Like what is going on with the weather in so cal? Been here 12 hours and I'm ready to go back to texas!

And why is it when people list their mods on their bikes they list your name as a mod?

I think that's how the HD night train is set up.

This has been a screwy year, I remember 1 year 30 years ago that got me out of competitive cycling, this is nowhere close.  Supposidly, 100 some odd years ago, it rained for 40 days and nights.  This must be when el nino get's together with el nina and we all get screwed.  I'm looking for some pontoons for the savage... just in case.

I usually try to obey the law (Except for speeding) , but my main concern is being seen. Given the choice between cute or bright I go for bright.   ;)

I dont foresee any of us breaking mach anything while speeding along on the old thumper.

And visibility my  :-X

I was tboned on my 500 wearing the Marine Corps required reflective vest.

I rather go down wearing all my gear and looking cute while doing it. staying alert and vigilant.

Has anyone seen the video
Guy on a sport bike stoped behind a van at a red light wearing a helmet cam?
He was rear ended by a lady on her phone. he even landed on his feet after the crash..

taller bike and rider combo then US
BRIGHTER dressed than most of us I would say
And tail light and signals easy 10-14 higher than our.

You really think a 2in x 3in red box is gonna change much?

Dummy lights were created for safety.. Bah-humbug. Thoses suckers can't defeat blind deaf and dumb.
