Post by wesley on 05/04/11 at 20:30:40

by the way this will be the first time that i will be showing my bike to you all. Hope you like my write up!

Fender I got from Northern Tool 7x22" $14.99

measuring where to put the holes (mounting it under the seat). i used chopsticks to put in the hole and sharpie marker the bottom of the chopsticks when your ready to mark it.

depending how you want to position the fender you need to cut some for the belt guard. Here it is after some cutting and holes.

I used a 3 1/2" long bolt, lock washers and nuts.. and i also found some metal spacers (from Lowe's only) depending how high or low you want the fender from the tire they have different sizes.

Mounted under the seat. Dont forget to put a big washer underneathe the fender. at first it wont fit right because the washer is flat and the fender is curved, but after tighting the bolt, the washer will conform with the fender and will be snug!

got that "SoCal" thing above the light from an old belt buckle.. i live in North Carolina now but grew up in SoCal so i gotta rep!.. plus it goes with the bike so why not!

Painted it flat black to match.. I dont know  though I also kinda liked the steel look without the paint.. what do you guys think??http://i54.tinypic.com/a31ppd.jpg

looks good

funny thing i just bought the same fender  :) going to work on mine this weekend. i made some struts for mine to lower it so when i put my fender on i won't need any spacers it will mount right under my springs for my seat.

Great job.  I like the unpainted steel too, but would it rust?  Probably better with some paint and the flat black looks great.

Looks good, and like your writeup. Do you have any plans to hide the big gaping hole behind the seat?

I like that.
That fender was on my short list before trying an old XS650 fender.
Unless you are mounting the turn signals close to the seat, a tool bag mounted behind the hole would hide it nicely.

Looks good man, did basically the same thing this winter and love the new look. Just a word of advice depending on how stiff you have your rear shocks set up, when crusin and you hit a grenade you miiight bottom out on the bottom of those nuts you fastened it with. I personally did cause the bike was new to me and the suspension was soft and i shredded my new rear tire haha. Just trying to save you the same trouble
