Title: 40,000 + miles
Post by MMRanch on 05/04/11 at 06:49:14

Well my Savage turned over 40,000 last week so I took it for a 400 mile ride Yesterday.   It still runs great and doesn't burn oil yet.   Still on the original belt too.

So Question is  ,  What is everybodys high numbers on the odometer ?

And for those young bikes out there 40 isn't really old !

8-)

darn, that's pretty sweet, I only have less than 4k, I get less than 2k a year in this NY state of rain and snow.

78,000+ on the 2002.  Dunno exactly until I go look.
Only about 4,500 on the 2000, but I just get that one in Feb with 2,200 on it.

I like to ride..

43k on a '96 and 42k on a '02 engine.
both need chains, the '02 is getting a new piston.

wow,  I guess Bettie is barely broken in at 17k then

yay!

what is the realistic life expectancy then?
at what point will all the ancillary stuff go?
Metal fatigue of the fram?

its allmost time to put a camchain in.   Its easier than you might think !   You can use ultra-grey form-a-gasket on the clutch cover and you'll have to have it for the top plate.   Most of them wiggle off after the top motor mount is removed , so doin't believe that stuff about removing the motor .

You still on the original set of rings ?   so my bike is only "Middle Aged"  ,  will it runs like middle aged also , reliable and strong enough .

:)

I am on the original rings, cam chain, everything.  The only thing changed IN the engine was that it has a verslavy tensioner (on the 2nd hole).
It isn't as spry as it once was, but will still hit 70 (on a good day) carrying my large carcass around.  (Probably has a timing issue from cam chain stretch, compression loss from worn rings, etc)
Heck, I've never even adjusted the valves.

MMR
I have a chain but haven't gotten around to putting it in yet
I have modded the tensioner, however.
