after i use the engine to slow down and then pull in clutch lever it dies on me, did it twice to me 2night. i had to stick it on prime to get it going again. any idea's?

its raised to what sounds decently high but i have no tach to see were im idling at. i can try to go more but then it will sound like im giving it gas at a dead stop

That and cleaning your carb,

I think it was the air shut off valve that does it.

just thought i would say, that last night(5/4/11) there was smoke coming out of my exhaust and it smelled like fuel and then died? it took it a few starts to get started and didn't want to start right away and then it finally started. it sounded like it was almost flooded or something?

and i didn't have any problems with it today except for it having trouble starting like i mentioned in last paragraph. but other then that nothing else today.

If all else fails, clean the carb, might be the slide sticking.

Also, replacing the plug is cheap.

brand new plug and the guy i bought it from in march said carbs were rebuilt in jan, but maybe they werent realy done. and i wont dare take it on highway after it shut off on me 3 times.

ill try cleaning and putting in another plug

Pull the plug,, have a look, if its all gunked up & black,, replace it, set the idle higher if its just lumping along.

Hmmm... engine braking so high vacuum, no reason for the petcock to shut off, but if the diaphragm was leaking...

Had identical problem. Engine braking - dark smoke from exhaust - engine dies. Petcock diaphragm leaked. Test drive it on PRI for a while to confim that. That's how I cought it, guided by someone from this forum. ;)
