Title: Another Fine Day Post by Driller on 04/30/11 at 15:55:50 Blue ridge Parkway....just can't get enough...and the camera is working! ;) http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/4136/002qa.jpg (http://img90.imageshack.us/i/002qa.jpg/) That nasty storm system that passed through here last week cleared the air and left blue skies and perfect riding temps in its wake. When leaving the house the thermometer showed 52f and the weather forecast was calling for highs in the 70's. Time to ride! I went up 276 from Brevard where we finished our ride week before last and continued south on the Parkway. The first pic is a view back towards Pisgah. You can see the road snaking along the ridge if you look closely. Further along a stop at Devil's Courthouse for a stretch and the view was in order. http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/5038/006qcm.jpg (http://img535.imageshack.us/i/006qcm.jpg/) The area down there is a place I used to ride dual sport bikes over forest service trails before my body said "stop doing this to me!" http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/2559/004epnk.jpg (http://img51.imageshack.us/i/004epnk.jpg/) Further down the Parkway, grooving on the turns and trying not to run off the road looking at the beautiful scenery, I reached the highest point on the road. http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/6749/007eyy.jpg (http://img716.imageshack.us/i/007eyy.jpg/) Had a nice chat with some other bikers stopped there. There were a lot of folks from other states touring the area. I gave them some tips about interesting places to see and turned back for home. North or South, it's all down hill from here. I live out that direction.... http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/3936/008ye.jpg (http://img856.imageshack.us/i/008ye.jpg/) Heading towards home, I found my new favorite road for this season (not counting good old BRP) Highway 215 from the parkway down to highway 64 at Rosman. Dragon riders, take note. If you can get this far up, RIDE THIS ROAD! It was paved last fall and is in excellent shape. Really a hoot to exercise the Savage on. Quite a contrast to 276 from Brevard up to the parkway. It is rough and patched out the wazoo. :-X I was really glad to have worn my regular riding jacket. The temp up at the highest point was 50 and the wind chill while underway made for a nippy ride for a while.
