help just replaced starter solenoid and still wont start i can jump the solenoid contacts and it cranks and starts but when i hit the starter button i only get a click in the decomp controller box
help please

I would check the starter relay then. It is mounted under the seat low on the rear fender if I recall correctly.

thats the same thing as the soleniod i replaced it

Sounds like the problem is between the decomp relay and the starter relay... There's a Yellow/black wire that runs between them.
Maybe there?...

i think i've concluded that the controller is bad when i put a meter on the yellow and black wire at the controller and hit the start button there is no power there but i can jump the red and white wire to the yellow and black wire bike fires right up

The only danger in doing that is you're disabling the decomp.
This is ok most of the time, but every once in a while, when you go to start, the starter will stall.  Put the bike in gear and push it forward to get it thru compression.  Pop it out of gear and start as usual.  remember forward not backward.  Backward will cause pre'90's to bust out the starter.

May be what is called the relay assembly, that box is number 15 on the bikebandit wiring harness diagram:

Clymer manual shows how to test it, basically transmit a different voltage at different time, all this within a few secs.

gayla, before you spen $$$, give me some time to look at mine. I wired mine up to work off a switch up under the seat, gimme some time, okay? Im not feeling too great, so Im not ready to go ;ook right now.
