Title: I am a Master
Post by splash07 on 04/20/11 at 14:44:57

Yesterday I successfully defended my Master's thesis, bringing to an end seven years of higher education. I think, however that I am more excited about having the time to now start my Bonnie Blue rebuild. It has been seven months since she was running but with some luck I will be back in the saddle in less than a month.

Congratulations.  Whenever I feel like going back to school, I go outside and play until that feeling passes. :D

A buddy of mine got a masters degree in baiting fish hooks,
so would that make him a master-baiter ?

Thesis was on developing a Low Impact Development (LID) manual for coastal South Carolina decision makers. LID is a form of development that uses techniques and practices that minimize the quantity of stormwater runoff as well as improving the runoff quality. In general it attempts to mimic the site's natural hydrology.

You are too smart to be here, but since you're here, you might as well stay!   ;D

Seriously though, that is an awesome accomplishment.  I hope you celebrated accordingly.   8-)

IOW, youre trying to show how a parking lot can be built w/o causing someones front yard down the hill from it being flooded every time it rains. When they built what is now Bush Intnl airport ( back then it was Houston Jetero) my house flooded every summer, because they built it so all those square feet of earth tht were now covered in cement no longer could allow the rain to soak IN,,, so, it hadda go somewhere,, & it went to Greens Bayou, which had a bottleneck downstream from my house, & my house was sitting in 3 feet O water,, They Needed a study like that.
So, youre a surveyor, too or you take a survey & work from it?

Not a surveyor, I am an environmental politician for lack of a better term. Basically a biologist, ecologist, and a city planner rolled into one person. But, yes, I am in other words trying to get stuff built in a way that causes the rainwater to soak into the ground rather than be directed to a drain pipe that dumps into rivers, streams, and bays.

You need to help out Houston - I believe their plan is to allow the
roads to turn into rivers during even light runoff events

Go to Odessa & look at Muskingum,, its shaped like a V,, it IS part of the drainage. When I was 16 I was running that road after a big rain. I hung a rooster tail in some gals window & soaked her in a big way. Couldnt believe she was running thru there with windows down..

Having put a drainage field into my back yard, I can appreciate the scale of what you do!

Congrats on a job well done!

Splash, you have every reason to celebrate
as well as feel good about your achievement.
School itself is rough at times and holding down
2 jobs as well, sure does deserve a pat on the back.
My son worked 3 while attaing his Bachelors last year.
He is now on towards his Masters.
I raise a glass to your achivements and applaude you
again for the many hours and years it took for you
to do this.. Hugs and  :-*   kim
