Title: Unlock gas cap without the key
Post by Daved144 on 04/10/11 at 19:24:17

I recently got a 1986 Suzuki Savage as a partial payment for helping a person, but the bike didn't come with a gas cap key. The previous owner replaced the gas tank and cap when they used to ride it 6 years ago. They lost the gas cap key and stopped riding the bike. How can I get the gas cap off and replace the old gas and replace the old cap with a new gas cap ? The bike seems to have low miles, under 13,000 miles , and it would be a great way to save gas and have a fun tripo with on nice days ! Thanks for any help.

I've picked the gas lock 2 times
take to a locksmith if you can't figure it out.

The  previous owner swapped gas tanks and swapped gas caps, so the cap needed a different key. I am eager to get bthis bike up and going, as it sat for 6 years. I just can't figure how to over come the locked gas cap. I guess I could take the gas tank to a locksmith if that is the only way to resolve the problem. I am worried the cost the locksmith may charge, but a mostly free bike is great for just a little physical work .

Try to pick the lock, its not real hard. Ive picked a few, small screwdriver to twist the lock & a wire to rake up the pins..

I don't like or need a locking gas cap, so when my tank gets back from Ryca, I'm having my buddy cut out the old one and weld this in place before painting. Just a plain old twist to close cap.
