Title: Putting Helmets on Backrest - Bad?
Post by Howitzer on 04/09/11 at 23:35:28

I was reading the manual that came with my Bell Vortex helmet, and I noticed that it said to never "park" my helmet on the backrest of my bike.  After some more digging on the internet, it is supposedly bad for the foam protection in your helmet.  Indeed, I went to poke at the foam with my finger, and I made a permanent indent in it with relatively low pressure.  I suppose leaving the helmet on the backrest for prolonged periods condenses the foam protection.

Anyone aware of this?

I think the damage would from dropping the helmet on the bar rather than resting there.

So stuff your gloves in the helmet before you stick it on the sissy bar.

Take any disclaimer with a grain of salt...  The lawyers in this country make companies do stupid things to protect themselves.  I have been doing it for years.  And I have had two head on collisions, and my head is still in one piece.

Not that this is a recommendation or endorsement of said behavior.  For safety purposes, stay home and lock the door!

Never heard of this. Like Verslagen1 says,
dropping the helmet does more damage.
You can alwasy let it hang by the strap,
from the handlebars if your that concerned. :) kim

::) I guess putting my gloves in my helmet would fix the problem.  Carried around my helmet for about two hours yesterday because I had a nagging worry about this.

Why carry? If your in a store,
place it in a cart. Be careful
as if it has a shield, the sides
of the cart may possibly scratch
it or the shell. Just a suggestion.. :) kim

Homeland Security would probably have a problem with that.   ;)

Usually, if you hang it upside down on the bars it becomes a handy trash can for passerbys... :)

Ah, I was just walking around downtown/South Boston.  Over here we're finally getting some t-shirt weather, in the 50-60's.  This weekend was way too short :(.

The helmet I mentioned above is my second one, but in red ;D.  I'm so happy to have it now.

They seem to have a problem with a lot of things we do, and who we do them with...and how we vote...and what we choose to believe.
Can anyone say,"I Am Not a Crook, Nixon"? Oh, wait a minute...didn't Mr. Cheney advise him on legal matters?

Yes Virginia...there is a  Boogy man.

I was in a parts store, in the process of removing my helmet, when some clerk told me I Needed to Take my helmet off.. I started strapping it back on & as I went for th door, I flipped him off & told him I was in the process of taking it off,, but since he decided to tell me I Needed to take it off, WHILE I was taking it off,, he could shove it & Id go elsewhere..

He was between me & the door, but managed to move away as I approached.. jackass,,
Thankfully, Ive found ONE parts store with steady, knowledgeable, helpful  & polite   employees,,,
Why IS it so hard to find a well staffed & well run parts store?
