You'll be surprised at your determination. I think you will indeed be riding this year. I had surgery for massive rotator cuff tear, courtesy of some old lady pointing her big car at me and hitting the gas. 6 months on disability, and wearing one of those big arse sling things. I was riding on the 6th month. Yeah, I wasn't 100% and it still hurt like hell, but I started with short rides and was scraping pegs soon after.

Good luck, and a speedy recovery.

So chopped, did you pick your name because of your ride or your medical history? :D

Here's hoping for a fast and complete recovery.

Chopped, kisses to you for a full
and complete recovery. It is hard
to be down during the riding season.
Yet another will come and your knees
and hip will be ready..

Hey Chopped no experience with hip replacement, but have had both knee replaced in the last four years. Did the rehab and haven't had any problems. I've even been able to keep refereeing soccer and softball, Most important still riding. Good luck and keep us up to date on your progress.

Nonbiodegradable and contaminated -- even the vultures can't eat us!

(The Parsi are a minority culture in India who dispose of their late relatives by leaving them in the "Towers of Silence".  The griffon vultures make short work of the soft parts.  Or at least they used to...)

From Wikipedia:

In the past several decades, the population of birds of prey on the Indian subcontinent has declined by 99.9% (as of 2008) primarily due to diclofenac poisoning of the birds following the introduction of that drug for livestock in the 1990s[5] (diclofenac for cattle was banned by the Indian government in 2006). The few surviving birds are often unable to fully consume the bodies.[6] Parsi communities in India are currently evaluating captive breeding of vultures and the use of "solar concentrators" (which are essentially large mirrors) to accelerate decomposition.[7] Some have been forced to resort to burial, as the solar collectors work only in clear weather. Vultures formerly disposed of a body in minutes, and no other method has proved fully effective.

I have found that surgery can relieve pain in one area, but cause it in others!

my doctors have told me I am crazy.... after my last three surgeries, I have only taken a total of three percacet. I don't like pain meds... they dull the senses and keep you from healing as quickly!

Pain meds don't affect healing at all unless they contain aspirin, and that affects blood clotting time in the initial stages.

I do agree with you about the dulling the senses -- the effective ones make you feel drugged -- "Am I awake or asleep?  Let's see, are my eyes open?  If they are, I must be awake..."

I never did see the fun in abusing those things -- the therapeutic doses are nasty enough!
