Notice there's no hub or spokes, just the rim and tire. It's not that the wheel came unbolted, the spokes broke. Perhaps they've pushed the weight-savings envelope a bit too far.

Those bikes have no spokes ni the traditional sense.

They have single-arm rear suspension and the wheel bolts on with a single nut, just like on racing cars or 1930's MGs with wire wheels.

It could well be the nut wasn't tightened to specs.

Well, Serowbot, congratulations for following up the story so well.

I assume the engineers frmo that particular alloy wheel company got some fingers wagged at them ?  :-?

Im pretty sure the rider can find at least one to wag at them...I know I could...
