Title: Lowest drag bars/superbike bars?
Post by BuckHMCC on 03/29/11 at 07:48:25

Who has the lowest drag bars or superbike bars with an unmodified, stock gas tank?

I am doing a Ryca conversion (I've not received my kit yet). I am considering mounting drag or superbike bars instead of the kit-supplied clip-ons. The Ryca-modified gas tank will mount a little lower than stock, maybe 1" or so.

I want a low handlebar set up that will work without contacting the gas tank. The bike is a 1996 model with original risers for the stock buckhorn bars.

If you have a low set-up that works please note what handlebars and risers you're using. Of course, a photo would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Here are some 1" low bars. Kind of pricey, though.

Mine are pretty low, stock low boy clamps that come with the buckhorns, Z-bar with about a 4" rise.
If you're getting the RYCA tank, then there's a cheap EMCO low rise bar that'll do.  It didn't completely clear the stock tank w/o a spacer under the clamps.
If drag bars is what you want, add some spacers till it fits.  3/8" drive 3/4" sockets make great risers, just use a high strength 3/8" bolt instead of the metric bolt so that it fits thru the socket.

Here are more 1" Flanders bars. The drag bars are in the center column.

Typical drag bars need about 3" of rise,... broomstick bars can get away with maybe 1", but put your reach further forward... Superbike bars should clear with stock mounts, or maybe 1" of rise, depending on the tilt...
You can get a forward offset riser that will let them get lower.  It's all a balance of forward vs. upward, and how much downwards tilt you want at the grips... A slight downwards tilt, and a bit of pullback, helps with wrist and shoulder comfort...

Why not use a set of offset risers?? 3" of rise to clear should work just fine with 1"-1.5" of forward offset
