Title: almost done
Post by Bubba on 03/28/11 at 09:41:29

Long story short. Picked up a 97 with 2 stripped head cover bolts and the washer in the wrong place on the starter gears ($500 bucks). Pulled the engine fixed it all (+ a verslavy) and re-installed. I put the old stock exhaust I took off my "good" bike ('06) on it since the one that came with it was rusted out.
Everything is super-duper and it runs GREAT! (speedy little bugger). I have two things left that I need some help with.
1) exhaust makes a whistling sound when riding...I couldn't remember what the old exhaust sounded like but man is it quiet a.k.a. sewing machine. Is the whistling common? Everything is tight...I checked. Runs fine other than that.
2) the front brake is super mushy...new pads to fix? The Brake fluid looks good and there is plenty in the reservoir.
Thanks

P.S. 13,000 miles, torn rear seat and dented side cover on left...asking price???

Mushy brake could be air in the system.

Had a mushy brake once, bleed it several times than replaced the line with a steel braided hose.  no more mush.

whistling muff, probably got it on too tight.   8-)
If you weren't planning on selling, I'd drill it.

'97 13k w/a verslavy... worth a million.   8-)

Thanks guys, I'll try bleeding it...never done it but then again I've never resurrected a M/C before either!!! ;D

Not sure how too tight would cause whistling but who knows???

Versy, I'll be needing another verslavy...I used the one I bought from you last year on this bike...it needed it tho', it was out to the last click...20mm!!!
I still plan to put one in the '06...then I'll send you both the old ones!!!!
