Getting ready to sand the shocks but i cant get the black guard off!

Turn it upside down. Take a piece of scrap wood  (like a 1x2 or some old baseboard trim) and place it on the bottom lip of that black plastic piece. Tap the wood gently with a hammer and it will start to come off. Work your way around the rim of the black piece and it will eventually pop right off. Mine came off that way last night without any problems.
I suppose you could also use a metal punch or the end of a file or something like that, just be careful not to scratch the fork.

I will try something like that. I just dont have any piece of wood but i will do something.

A regular screw driver would work too. Just place the tip along the lip of the fork protector from the underside and give it a couple whacks with the hammer. It'll come off. Mine came off fine and they are still re-useable.

i kind of like the way they look. I just went to the grocery store and "acquire" a piece of wood from the pallets that they have lying around the loading dock.
