So, when looking into a new set of bars (the buckhorns ain't doin' it for me), I've seen mention of smooth and dimpled types. From what I gather, the smooth bars cannot be used with OEM throttle and clutch assemblies in some cases.

Does the Savage require the dimpled bars, or can I run my stuff on smooth bars?

There's a tab on the throttle housing that goes into a hole in the stock bars. It's to keep it from twisting on the bar when you twist the throttle. There are two options when you're using aftermarket bars.

The first is to drill a hole in the new bars. Problem solved.

If you're not good at drilling holes in hard cylindrical objects, the second solution is to grind the tab off the throttle housing. Then to keep it from twisting, wrap enough tape around the bar so the throttle housing fits tightly when it's bolted in place. But be prepared to replace the tape sometime in the future.

Dimpled bars are for controls that have no relief cut for wiring. Suzuki doesn't need them. The neat thing about the suzuki and honda controls is that they are cheaply made and very easy to grind if you nee to. And yes, you can use dimpled bars on the savage...

Wide rubber bands, a piece of inner tube, or vulcanizing tape is all you need to make the controls fit tight.
