So, for those who have run a non-standard air filter (K&N or the like), what did you do with the breather hose that originally ran into the airbox? Just run it to the gound, or did you cap it with another filter? Something else?

Just lookin' fer some ideas.....

I just cut my hose a bit shorter and have it hanging in the wind pointing down.

You can buy mini breathers at places like Pep Boys/Auto Zone. You may get some discharge from the hose so you want it to either be low enough to drain on the ground or pop a breather on the end.

You should probably spend the $5-$10 and get a breather filter on it. It'll help you sleep at night.

I routed the hose down the right side of the bike and zip tied it to the frame just under the back of the seat. It runs a little on the frame of the bike, but it works ok otherwise.

I put a breather filter on mine. It looks pretty good. Let me know and I'll post a pic.

Having the breather line run to the air box is supposed to be an emissions related thing. Vapors supposedly get sucked back into the engine via the carb. So if you're using a pod filter and still want to be kind of environmentally responsible, you could end the hose right by the filter where whatever comes out of the hose will be sucked in.

Just be sure you do not restrict or block the vent, this big single has to breathe in & out. All that air pressure will cause oil leaks if it can't go anywhere. :-X

A pic would be great! I've wondered about the filters, so seeing how it looks would be killa!

to minimize oil coming out of the hose, loop it upwards to the top of the frame before heading down.

And remember, this thing pumps a 4" diameter cylinder of air 4" up and down. That's a lot of air, and it'll suck in a lot of dirt too.

Or you do like the previous owner of my bike -- let the crankcase fill with gasoline so there's no air to pump in and out.

Here's a pic of how the previous owner setup my air filter & breather tube. Doesn't look too bad when you use black zip ties to tie it to the frame.

(I plan on swapping the air filter for a pod style filter and eliminating the extra elbow this spring)

Ouch. My condolences.....

I guess the next step would be to get some brand names and proper sizes and such from all y'all, so's I can do some research on the interwebz......

mine is a K&N, I got from a friend. It doesn't really matter, as long as you can stick it in the hose.

That's pretty much what I figured. I'm wondering if there's anything (perhaps in certain brands?) that will allow the oil that occasionally gets puked to drain out of the filter. If not, won't it wreck the thing?

wouldn't be sure about that. I ran mine for 2 years with a cheap inline fuel filter stuck in there ;) not a drop of oil, nothing. Don't think that's an issue really.
