I took my generator off. I am having a tough time figuring out how the starter clutch gears are installed back on there. THe clymer manual isn't all that helpful. Specifically, I can't figure out which way the starter clutch gear #2 goes on and I don't know which gear these two little washers go on. I thought it was gear #1 according to clymer manual, but then it does not look like it meshes right with gear #2. I was thinking maybe a photo of one would help. THanks.

I beleave they go on either side of the gear with 2 different sizes.

If that's wrong, the starter won't turn.

You could also try going to www.cheapcycleparts.com, select the year Savage you have and look at the illustrated parts breakdown. You might be able to see the assembly sequence a little better.

I checked cheapcycleparts too. I assembled the way it appears based on the clymer and the diagram on cheapcycleparts, but something just seems a little off. THe gears don't appear to mesh right. Was hoping to see a pic maybe off someone's bike.
