Title: New Guy... My Savage thread. Post by GeorgeS on 02/12/11 at 13:07:34 Just picked up an 02 Savage.. nice bike, I like it! (Pics will come). I plan on doing some work to it after its mechanically sound, looking at rear fenders. Someone mentioned mounting the rear fender to the swingarm for non-hardtailed builds and I was wondering what that looked like. Has anyone done this and could someone reference a picture or something, Ive tried the search and came up empty. Thanks! ***ETA*** Modifying the thread to be my "build" thread. |

Cleaned the carb, did an oil change, need to replace the spark plug still, but I couldnt wait to ride it so I went out for a bit around the neighborhood. This is my first motorcycle and Im just learning to ride. Since Ive never been one to leave anything alone, I ordered up some parts the day after picking up my "new" Savage. Theyve come in and I spent some time the last few days getting everything on. Still waiting to do the fender, seat, mirrors, brake and clutch levers. Everything was super easy to put together except for the clutch lever (im gonna need a new one) and the bike just feels and sounds so much better now! Cant wait to do the rest! |

Title: Re: New Guy... My Savage thread. Post by GeorgeS on 03/06/11 at 14:09:56 Did a bit of work today! Disassembled the ugly rear end of the little beastie and attached a new fender. Its a trailer fender I picked up locally, mounted to the frame using the factory mounting points and a 1" spacer on the upper mount points. Moved the electrical stuff under the single seat and mounted them to the fender. Debating cutting the fender itself a bit shorter, but Im waiting for my new seat pan and taillight setup to arrive before I decide and then go ahead with any more cutting or paint. Right now its solid and totally reversible, no cutting or welding on the frame. Title: Re: New Guy... My Savage thread. Post by GeorgeS on 03/08/11 at 17:56:17 More work today... Cut the fender down by half and tacked some tabs along the side for my brake/turn signal light kit. Used JB Weld for now, after it hardens Ill be putting a couple rivets through as well for extra strength and style. Stared for hours at the seat pan I purchased trying to figure out how to mount the darn thing. In the end, I went against my better judgement and initial inclination of keeping every stock in case I wanted to restore it to OG and tore the covering and foam off the stock seat pan and went to town with the dremel. Shortened the rear of the seat pan by about 2 inches or so, just enough to knock the huge upturn off the back. Cleaned and spray paint the seat pan and in the end I gotta say, it looks pretty good. Also, started chasing around wires for the new light getting ideas on how to reroute everything. All in all it was a productive day, too dark now for pics, but Ill get them up as soon as I can.! Thanks for the insperation and ideas fellas, couldnt have got this far without this site. |

Wired up the new turn signals and brake lights, cut painted and mounted the new fender, covered the seat... done. I didnt remove any of the OG wiring, just worked with it and retaped and routed everything, just hoping the bike doesnt catch on fire while I riding!
