Title: Views from where we live Post by mpescatori on 02/01/11 at 04:45:27 I thought it a worthwhile topic, for each of us to post a few pics taken from webcams frmo where we live, or relatively nearby. I'll start off with Rome http://www.webcams.travel/webcam/1230041276-Weather-Vatican-City-State%2C-St.-Peter%27s-Square-Vatican-City http://images.webcams.travel/webcam/1230041276.jpg This one below is from the "Castelli", actually a set of spent volcanoes which evolved in rich, fertile hills where Princes and Cardinals built their villas. http://images.webcams.travel/webcam/1202493540.jpg The funny looking "cubic Coliseum" is actually a museum built ni the late '30s by Mussolini, the cupola in the back is a church (no, it's not the Vatican) http://images.webcams.travel/webcam/1267194991.jpg OK, so who's next ? :) |

Title: Re: Views from where we live Post by ALfromN.H. on 02/01/11 at 07:32:49 I live right on the N.H./Maine border. This is a picture of the Nubble light house in York, Me. about 20-25 minutes ride. It's on a small island. You can see the utility pole in the left of the picture. There used to be a basket that rides along a cable that the kids used to have to ride across every morning to go to school. I think it's one of the most photographed lighthouses in the U.S. http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0PDoX5oKEhN0WwAKymjzbkF/SIG=12nf1ouok/EXP=1296660968/**http%3a//i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv146/MaineFamily09/IMG_0270.jpgAlso, about an hour ride from me are the White Mountains. Lots of great scenery and some history. Here's a picture of the Mt. Washington Hotel. In 1944, The Mount Washington hosted the Bretton Woods International Monetary Conference. Delegates from 44 nations convened, establishing the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, setting the gold standard at $35.00 an ounce and designating the United States dollar as the backbone of international exchange. The signing of the formal documents took place in the Gold Room, located off the Hotel Lobby and now preserved as an historic site. The Hotel has been host to countless celebrities, including Thomas Edison, Babe Ruth and three U.S. Presidents The Mount Washington Hotel opened for its "First Winter" season ever, beginning Thanksgiving Day, 1999! http://gallery.bostonradio.org/2003-08/mtwashington/100-01432-lrg.jpg http://img.groundspeak.com/waymarking/8661c095-57ce-453a-8693-5ce67284ba16.jpg |

What!!?? :o I care dude! I'd love to be able to visit your beautiful part of the continent! Drove across the Canadian praries back in '82 and I was gobsmacked by the stark beauty of the wide-open spaces ... I'm sure Nebraska is just as lovely! Besides, one of my favourite singer/songwriters, Matthew Sweet, is from Lincoln, NE |
