Some have done chain conversions so the question is what is the best mileage with belt drive and what is the best with chain drive. List mods if you have done any.

Any difference burning ethanol fuel?

Any difference using synthetic oil vs dino oil?

For those that have done pipe,carb, airbox mods any change?

150/50 jets, dyna muffler, k/n filter...

I've got as high as 72mpg, cruising a lazy winding road in 4th at 35 or 40mph...
... as low as 48mpg doing 75+mph on the freeway...
Usual, is in the low 60's...

No noticeable difference in mileage over stock...
It's all in the wrist...

muffler and adjustment skrew out 2.5 turns.. getting average of 55mpg.. I don't drive carefully.

My 06 has a 100% stock engine. In fact, the only mod is a Suzuki windscreen and I average 58 mpg. I've done as high as 63 on 45-50 mph country roads and as low as 48 doing mostly highway.

Idle mixture screw at 2.5 K&N OEM type air filter and Suzuki windshield
I get about 58 average. For what It's worth this is the most fun you can get for $3.25

These comments all seem pretty realistic...

Figure, high 40's to low 60's, average... You might get a bit more or less with extreme riding...
Anything much further out, and something's wrong...
Engine mods can help or hurt, depending...
Weight, can add or take away a few...
... switching to chain, with higher gearing, can add a few highway, and loose a few in traffic...

If you really want more power, get a bigger bike...
... and if you really want more mileage, get a smaller one...
You can tweak a little one way or the other... but you can't make a donkey into a thoroughbred, or visa-versa...
What we have,... is a quarter horse...
Quick but not fast,... thrifty but not cheap...

Just switching to a slightly taller rear tire can make a 5% difference...
... if you push it to 10%,... with tires, gearing, jetting, or whatever,... you change the character of the bike completely...
...might as well have bought a Virago 250 or a Ninja 650...

60mpg @ 60mph, have to go to reserve @ 120 miles. Engine is stock, machine has a windshield. Regards, Jim.
