Title: The one year
Post by bill67 on 01/20/11 at 17:23:07

There are 4 unusual dates this year,1/1/11   1/11/11    11/1/11   11/11/11    Now take the last 2 numbers in the year you were born and add it to your age you will be this year and see what you come up with.

Very clever William. I got 111.

A lot of 1's happening this year. Shouldn't there be some sort of celebration on 11/11/11 at 11:11 AM and 11:11 PM? I'll be the Brits came up with something.

Do you think it's impolite to recount the terms of endearment of the time period each had for each other?

Don't forget we fought the frogs off in the french and indian wars to mick. Course the limeys were our allies then. Go figure....lol

And thank you for the Limey lable we are very proud of it ,we were the first to beat Scurvy, thanks to our navy issueing Lime juice to our Sailors, with a little rum to wash it down,I think you guys were paddling around in dug out canoes at the time.

Since antiquity in various parts of the world, and since the 17th century in England, it had been known that citrus fruit had an antiscorbutic effect.

Then in 1794 lemon juice was issued on board the Suffolk on a twenty-three week, non-stop voyage to India.  Not until then was citric juice issued on a regular basis.

On October 13, 1775, Congress authorized the building of the first vessels of the Continental Navy: the official birth of the US Navy.

I remember that,it was when you guys went to page two of the American History book. And if I'm not mistaken it has a picture of you versy in the middle of being given 20 lashes from the cat-O-nine tails
for taking 30 minutes for loading your cannon.

Nope, that wasn't why cause I was fastest in the fleet, kept melting the cannons.  It was cause I kept aiming at some hard headed limey with a rowboat tattoo'd on his chest.  I hit the bloke many times right in the head and they just bounced away.  cap'n got so pissed he ordered me to hit the iron side of the ship.  Couldn't help myself, him the sob one more time.   ::)

Canada, call it a draw. Limeys did'nt help us much then, did they? Kinda Bailed on us.
Vietnam we just up and pulled out(as did the limeys)
Korea is still on going, only signed a truce/cease fire. Legaly we're still at war with them.
Technicly we've never lost a war.

If "technically" means ignore the facts, then yer right, but we Lost Vietnam, which is fair enough, cuz we had exactly ZERO just cause to be there.

Really??
Then we've had no just cause to help any of our allies over the years. South vietnam was an ally, a protectorate, that asked us for help in their fight against communism. Being invaded and taken over by people they didnt like in plain english.
Kinda like england and france asked us for help in two world wars. As so many OTHERS have asked for help over the years.
Yeah, you try and stand up for those weaker then yourself against overbearing bullies you get a bloody nose once in awhile.

And what did the nice north vietnamese do to their brethern when they finaly took over the south???
Took all the prostitutes, lawyers, politicians and anyone with any kind of power includeing doctors and priests, lined em up against a wall and shot them. And anyone else that didnt toe the communist line.
Kinda the norm for communism and socialism. Take anyone that dos'ent comply or that might threaten your power base and you take them and their families out and shoot them. Mao Tse Tung, Pol Pot, Lennin, stalin, Ho Chi Minh, you get the idea?
So yeah, the south vietnamese asked us for help to try and prevent that.

And no we did'nt lose. The limp wristed isolationist, just like the ones we have now days, just raised enough heII it became VERY politicaly unpopular for us to be there. To get elected you had to be against it, politics at play. The politicians ran that 'police action', not the military.
The military had been able to run it like a war instead of a political hammer it would of been over a LOT sooner.
If we had ran WWII like we did vietnam the english and french would be speaking german right now.
We(our politicians) just got tired of it and pulled out. We didnt get beat, we just got tired of fighting among ourselves and quit.
Which is kinda whats going on in iraq and afghanistan. Politicians running the war and lot of folks at home cutting the legs out from under the military instead of supporting them. Same chit differant era.

'I' never ignore the facts. I know the facts, i grew up in and studied that era. Had the pleasure of counting down the months and weeks to the day id get to volunteer or get drafted.
Had a LOT of family that served there and i know what was going on. I KNOW the facts.

Then you know the event we used to justify going in was a lie.

How about a long lunch between 11:11 AM and 1:11 PM on 11/11/11?

Special foods to include items looking like the number "1" -- long john donuts, french fries, breadsticks and/or baguettes, cucumbers, zucchini, celery stalks, skinny sausages, bacon strips, carrots ...

Or a special sandwich combining a bunch of them!
