Title: Not firing - Carb advice Post by ocdave on 01/15/11 at 13:54:57 Getting close to get this project going! However, the bike is not firing. It will fire with a spray of starter fluid in the carb. I opened up the drain at the bottom of the float bowl and didn't get any gas. No gas fumes. I obviously have a carb issue. I went thru the carb and thought I cleaned everything pretty well. I put in a new main jet. I'm about to tear back into it. Anyone have any thoughts on where to start. I just replaced and attached a raptor petcock. I have fuel going to the carb. I blocked off the two vacuum ports that are parallel to each other on the right side of the carb. Let me know if anyone has any thoughts on the possible carb issue. |

Run them up in a curve to the frame under the tank... With them plugged off the gas can't flow into the bowl. Those lines must run to a point higher than the carb. They attach to nothing. They let the air out, so the gas can get in. The line you need to block is the vacuum line on the right side of the carb. And there's one just like it on the other side. Those have nothing on them and they point up into the frame above the carb, just think of your secretary. Sero, you sure got some rusty screws. |

I also blocked off the port on the right side of the carb that is about 1/8" in diameter per Mr Verslagen's instructions in my previous thread. Is this additional vacuum port unique to certain years or Calif. models? Thanks again, |

Yes, cali only. You may have missed it, but the give it a wack was good advice. Take a screw driver and use the plastic handle to rap the side of the carb. This will knock the float valve loose if it is stuck. You said you opened the bowl drain and nothing came out. give it a try. |

She's having trouble idling. It's a little better with the choke out. I'm assuming I need to go up on the stock pilot jet??? I've added a cone filter and dyna exhaust. |

Title: Re: Not firing - Carb advice Post by verslagen1 on 01/16/11 at 21:38:32 You may just need to up the pilot jet like you think. but make sure you're not trying to idle too slow. axle spacers... left side is fat, right side skinny. As in big around. The left side fits into a seal. Obvious if it's the wrong size. |
