Title: What do ya'll think?
Post by Yonuh Adisi FSO on 01/09/11 at 11:24:30

This is from an e-mail I just received from the guy who bought the FireLizard. Did you know that the Suzuki Savage was only built for two years?  ;D ;D

Made it to Phoenix Thursday. It was 5 deg F when I left and it started tickin when I got about 60 miles south. Seemed to be using oil so I added a quart. I took it to a shop and he said it was a lifter and he could adjust it and replacing the rear tire would be good. It was bald and he was suprised I made it on the ice like that. He said the bike was made for two years and was called a disposable bike cos it was good for 45k miles. Not good since I have half of that on the bike already. He then told me the motor was not able to make it to Washington because of the distance and the lash on the lifter would wear again.

Ya just gonna hafta school the boy, thats all.. Maybe he needs to read Beatduck's log & Ill bet it would help if he knew I saw one in a parking lot with over 90,000 on the odometer. Take care of the lash, watch out for the cam chain, keep the oil changed & itll last a Looong time.

Kelly blue book has 750 and up touring bikes going 44,000 miles at 10 years as expected mileage.  Of course 650's are half that.

Also, 44,000 miles is verslavy extended range of the cam chain.
And from my experience, it'll be using a bit of oil at that point.

Since the cost factor is half of other bikes, would you consider the savage as a throw-away?  What would you consider a KIA compared to a Ford?  You pay so much money and you expect it to go so far.

Due to my aching arse and small stature of the bike, I think it may be out of class when considering it as a touring bike.  But throw away?  No.  Beater, learner, starter, or park it anywhere and not worry bike yes.

His reply when I told him what a Savage/S40 can and has done.

I think they were kinda jelous of the bike. I really want to cut part of the bottem of the tank sides away since its so wide. So wide it kills my crotch tendons.
