Title: Winter mods
Post by babyhog on 12/23/10 at 09:44:14

So, in an effort to make conversation...  anybody planning any mods over the winter that you maybe wouldn't create a new post about?  I need to change my oil for sure, and I'm considering some new graphics for my tank.  Simple stuff, but hey.

I'm pretty happy with my bike, but never know when something might spark my interest that I hadn't even thought about.

I have a seat I am supposed to be working on.  The trouble is, I have too many projects.  (Not sure whether that is good or bad?)

I am planning to purchase a fork brace and install. Oh and I still need to place the decals on Genie. I have just been waiting for the weather to warm up. Other than that nothing else left to add with the exception of many many happy miles.
Genie and I are looking forward to reporting of our many adventures.. :)  kim

Just installed a Schumacher battery tender. Worked great on a battery that wouldn't crank my bike. Does a 15 minute install count as a project?

I wanna take the head cover off.
swap the front forks
install fork boots
put on a different head light
install some tire sealant
change the plug
rework a head
have a cylinder bored and plated
mini battery install
secret carb project
verslavies
drain the pool and paint
new pump motor
and fix a leak in the skylight.
today I replaced the a/c filter and put the designer on my hit list.
I had to remove 2 panels get at it and it must be a custom size as I couldn't find one anywhere.

I'm slowly working on a set of 8 inch Forward Controls.
I've had 4" .....it was good
Now I have 6".....they are better
Just seems like 8" will be better yet.
But I got side tracked building a hydraulic dump bed trailer.
But I'm about outta money, so I'll get back on the FCs soon !

Routy, your legs must be long. By going to 8"fc they will allow you to really stretch your legs out right?

thumper is pretty much done, but i still have things yet to do.
i'm still kicking around letting someone here repair the baseball sized dent on tank, and the side pans of course.
i have always sugested just going out and staring at it for hours and hours looking for just the right lines, as you look at thumper i have went for triangles and how many you can develop.

I like to think I'm just a normal 6' guy, ::) but 8" will give me a nice stretched out leg position,.....that I believe will be very comfortable, and still have plenty of clearance to the front wheel

I'm looking at forward controls (thanks to Routy), raptor petcock, new seat (custom seat pan).  I have also picked up a B100P looking to cafe it for on of my daughters.  Will post pics as we start the build.

Front and rear brakes, oil change, right side cover off and check tensioner adjuster and chain, would like some forward controls--4" or 6", want a fork brace, needs new tires, tank has 2 small dents, rebuild carb and new plug, new air filter, Mongoose footpeg risers for the handlebars...........don't know where the $$ for any of this is coming from, but I can dream, right?

:-/

Install a stage one cam, rejet the carb, turn the right side sheet metal cover into a air scoop which will push more air into the airbox at speed (make one out of fiberglass). Give the bike it's yearly wash and wax.
Clean the shop.

I actually got one of my winter projects out of the way a few weeks ago, put on some Edge brackets and bigger saddlebags.  I like the bags, just need to get used to the little hidden fasteners; they're different than the ones on my old bags.  The brackets are pretty cool, even if they make the bags stick out a bit.  The cool thing is, I can have 'em on and off in just a few seconds, ooooh aaaah! :o ;D

Not sure what the next project is, maybe and engine guard and highway pegs, or just some kinda highway pegs. :-/  And maybe some taller risers.

Picked up a couple of sheepskins at IKEA a while back, want to make them into seat  covers.  I'm thinking removable in case it rains ....has anyone out there done this??

sportster seat reupholstered in white. 13" intruder shocks (which are already on and may end up being an issue, but if not I'll have some 412's on the market place). New chain/sprockets. Id love to shave the cylinder/head down 1mm but i dont feel like taking everything apart so that'll probably wait until next year. Id love to do a good thorough working of the exhaust ports but again I dont feel like taking it all apart. Hopefully I'll at least have my SR500 header chopped up and welded to fit to allow a better flow but who the hell knows. Press straighten the bent up forward control plate from last summer.

In reality I probably wont get anything done to it this year. Its sitting out under a tarp in the snow so I'm not doing anything until it gets warmer and by that point I'd rather just ride the fuhqer.

I have sheep skin cover I strap onto the seat. It does a good job of keeping the chill away.

Hi Skid Mark - wondering if you have sewn straps to the sheepskin, or is it more like a flat bungee method.??

Always like looking at photos. ;D ;D
