Post by itzgage on 12/13/10 at 09:32:11

i recently replaced my clutch cover gasket and a few other gaskets. i got the bike all together and now it wont engage in gear. i can have it in 1st 2nd 3rd..ect... n fully let go of the clutch and jus roll the throttle and nothing happens it just revs up... any solutions would be greatly accepted.

You sure the lever on the clutch cover moves right? I mean you didnt snap the cable or anything?

Disconnect the cable & see if you can roll it in gear.

Sounds like you did more than just replace the cover?  Fess up.

Check that the push pin is in the center of the clutch.
Check the cam to see if it broke when you took the cover off.

If you torqued those down snug, it should work.  Torqueing just keeps them there.

well turns out i had car oil in it. im new to riding and workin on it. ive taken the oil out. tightend the clutch basket n got it all back together im putting the right oil in it, if the clutch is glazed over and i run the right oil n just let it run do you think that would solve the problem? also the push rod is 44.5 mm the smallest do u think that could be part of the reason?

I hope it flushes off, but if you had it apart, you might shoulda asked before it went back together the proper procedure for cleaning up a clutch pack..

Put some Sea Foam in the engine oil that will clean off the clutch,Then use only oil that says for motorcycle on the bottle.

I was going to ask which oil you had even before clicking on / reading this thread. You didn't happen to use 20W-50 by any chance?
