Title: Supertrapp questions
Post by Driller on 12/10/10 at 18:12:43

My "new to me" '96 Savage came with a Supertrapp pipe with 7 discs. Does anyone know how many discs usually come with the pipe?
Any jetting and disc #'s that have been working would be appreciated.
This would be helpful for comparison once I get into the carb to check the existing jetting. Any jetting changes that might have been done are unknown, but the bike is running strong with little popping on de-cel. It may be a bit rich judging by the color of the discs. Will be checking the plug this weekend to confirm.
Thanks!
Driller

If tI remember correctly the ST comes with 6 discs stock and supposedly doesn't need re-jetting.  Your experience may vary from this as Savages seem to vary in A/F ratios even with the same jetting. ie. they are not very consistent in their needs for re-jetting. 7 is a strange number are you including the end piece? 6 disks as said come with it.
and those work well with stock jetting.
But I've up'd it still to 150.

I have a 150 main & 14 disks. Sounds good, runs okay. Good grunt, but Ive also got Lancers Stage 1 Cam in it. It could be tuned better, I see soot from a rich condition on the brake arm, but Im not sure where in the throttle swing that rich condition exists. There are some tricks, uising the throttle, that will "tell" the jetting, but dang if I can remember them

Mine came with 8 disks and I was running 6 disks in mine. I was borderline on needing to rejet with the stock setup. I have since went with a drag pipe from Blue Collar Bobbers.

I have had 2 Supertrapps on my Savage. Both came new with 8 discs. The instructions say you need not rejet unless you use more than 8. I noticed a huge difference in power just by adding the Supertrapp and a K@N air filter. No rejetting. I did remove the brass screw on the carb and richened it when I first bought the bike. No more popping at all. Just a nice deep rumble. I rejetted and added Lancers high performance cam, and now it's like a little rocket. Greg D's wife runs 14 discs in her bike, and I notice no difference in the sound, but I think that many discs mess with the carberation because if I'm correct she has had some problems running that many. Hope that helps.

Justin you notice a difference between 8 discs and 14? Did you have any problems with 14?

Yea, difference, the exact series of events, I dont remember, when I did the cam, & exhaust,, just cant remember. But I remember being pleased.

Heck, Im always pleased, when I mess with something & it continues to run.  :)

This one on my ZRX (a universal 4" one with a 2.5" inlet) came with 12 disks and I'm using 8. Of course, the point of the disks is that you can tune the exhaust by adding or subtracting disks, though fewer than 6 isn't recommended.

Here ya go...

"Metric Megaphone series"

Thanks for the replies. It always helps to have a general baseline to work from when sorting a new (used) bike out.

6 disks gives a good sound and depending on your location/altitude on whether you will have to rejet or not.
