Title: Cam Chain wear length clarification
Post by ocdave on 12/06/10 at 12:44:38

On some searches here I found that the cam chain wear limit was noted as:

Chain Stretch: SSM states the limit for 21 pins center to center is 128.8mm (5.07")
My manual I downloaded describes the wear limit with the same measurement but at a distance of "20 pitch length"

Is 21 pins center to center the same as 20 pitch length?

Just measure it against 5".
There's probably some technical definition somewhere, but it don't matter.  If you have the incorrect number of pitches over 5+ inches, the chain will have a gap in it.

Thank you, looks like I am within spec. I'm hoping the tensioner is also. I didn't know to check prior to tearing the top end down.
