Title: Brake Cable 2006 vs. 1995
Post by ocdave on 11/14/10 at 13:09:57

Would anyone know if a front brake cable from an '06 LS650 would fit a '95 Savage. I'm in need of one for my project '95. The part #s are different, but they look identical. There is a cable from an 06 on eBay for a reasonable price.

For your info, it's a brake hydraulic line or hose.

Difference is the drag bars on the '06 vs the buckhorns on the '95.
They are about 1" or 2" shorter.  Haven't heard anyone complain converting one to the other, either way.

But, I would caution you on using used brake lines, even a relatively new one.  You just don't know where it's been.  Get yourself a stainless steel braided brake line and be happy.

Want one cheap? send me $5.  But I'd rather throw it away.

I'll think I still might go for the '06 hose if it will fit. The $40+ for the stainless would be 1/4 of the price I paid for the entire bike! I'm just trying to get this project in running condition right now. How bad can an a hose from an '06 bike be? Besides, even if I had a catastrophic hose explosion isn't that what the rear brake is for. ;D

That fine if you want to build a $200 bike and what's your life worth again?  Yes I am trying to scare you.

This is a light bike, when the weight transfers to the front durring braking, all the back does is skid.

Here's another point to ponder... if that hose was good, why are they replacing it?

No, I hear you. This bike is kind of growing on me, and I think it's going to be a keeper.  I will wait till I find my bars and get a custom length stainless hose.
