Title: Thread pitch identification
Post by Kestryll on 11/03/10 at 12:41:42

We just picked up a 2007 S40 for my Wife, she really likes it, but it was missing the right side frame cover.
I found the side cover easy enough but not being familiar with the S40/Savage I did not realize this cover screws on instead of using rubber grommets.
Does anyone one know the diameter/length/pitch on the two screws that hold the right side cover on?

You will want to use the online parts fiche for finding correct parts such as the following:

http://www.bikebandit.com/2007-suzuki-motorcycle-ls650/o/m10380
http://a.bikebandit.com/assets/dzimages/suzuki/dzsuz002/07suls650017_files/9/0_0.png

If I read your post right the screws are #4 & 5 on this fiche, but it doesn't list the sizes. Maybe someone else can chime in, but I would try a variety of screws until I found one that fit.

ALSO, the Tech section is for "How-to" not "How do I" type questions. Questions should be posted in the Rubber Side Down.  :)

Start with 4mm x1 x10 and Might be 5mm though. My bike is loaded on the trailer and covered for the trip South or I'd pull one.  4mm is diameter, 1 is the thread pitch, amount it advances in 1 turn or distance from thread crest to crest and 10mm is the overall length. Max

This will not help Kestryll and I am not going to tell you "How I did it"  ;)  But I scored one of those "measure your nuts and bolts here boards" from Lowe's.  That should be real handy when I need to get more or diferent bolts.  it looks pretty good hanging on the wall as well.

Phelonius,

It and three full pages of its brothers and sisters just got moved to Rubber Side Down this morning.

They show up by their original posting dates, this one was very recent.

I have a couple of thread files, each w/ 8 file segments. I can usually find the Threads /Inch that way. Theyre handy to have, too, for straightening up threads..

One of these is very handy. Only $7 from Pro-Bolt.

Here's a tool that allows you to find the size of a blind threaded hole:

Nut and Bolt Thread Check Tool (http://www.thread-check-tool.com/index.html)

Great tool.....VERY easy to use!

That's  handy if you don't have the bolt that came out of the hole.
