Title: need help, got no clutch
Post by B1-66er on 11/01/10 at 13:06:38

so riding to my parents house today, squeezed clutch, heard loud click/thump, and clutch was gone

cable is still good, it lifts the release arm, but it doesnt engage the clutch. and the arm doesnt pull the cable back when released.

had to get it rolling before i could get it into first without stalling, then had to ride a mile home with no clutch, haha.

anyone know what the problem is?

Yep..   Odds are it's the funny looking cam that sits inside the clutch cover, the part that is on the other end of that arm.
Either that, or the pin that pushes in on the clutch (but not as likely).
Either way, I wouldn't ride (or start!) it again until fixed (not that you would want to anyway), as you could chew up something else if the busted parts get in the works.

Part #23 is the cam.  #22 is the pin

Just like billshut says... working on your bike will cause it to breakdown.

All kidding aside... likely cause of the failure is clutch wear and not keeping the arm in between the marks on the case.

And while you're in there... don't forget to look at your cam chain adjuster.   ;D

dumping the oil is the easy way, but you can tip your bike over at a 45° and all the oil stay inside.  But remember to stuff a couple of rags in the opennings at the bottom or you will loose something down there.

The entire bike is broken now and worthless. Give it to me, I'll take it off you hands.

Well, I think you got REal Lucky, running that engine with the clutch actuator arm broken & slinging around by those gears. The part is cheap. Mine broke at 20,000 miles.

Part its on its way, bike sits in shed.

But I got a new car yesterday, so that'll at least help distract me, Haha

Keep up with where each bolt goes. Cardboard with a drawing of the cover & a slot to poke each bolt in makes it easy.
Watch the loop the clutch cable hooks to as you go together. If its hanging down when youre finished with the bolts, youll not be smiling.

So the bike is not needed   ;D ....

You can drop it off at my sisters house in Athens, OH and I'll get it to east side of PA after I get laid off in Dec.    ;)   My son turns 16 in a month, he could use it........  8-)
