Title: anyone ever relocate their speedometer?
Post by B1-66er on 10/25/10 at 07:16:03

I wanna move mine from the tank to the center of the handlebars. I know several people here have switched tanks and was wondering where the speedo went.

I know its no help but I just put a peanut tank on mine and so the speedo is going to be zip tied on and then cut off after inspection...may go with a drag specialties speedo but...

I moved mine to the bars when I switched to the Harley tank. I made a container for it out of PVC pipe that fit the speedo near perfect. Holds it nice and snug with a couple of layers of duct tape wrapped around the speedometer and firmly pushed into the pipe. then used a matching PVC cap that I cut down for a back piece. Spray painted with black plastic suitable paint. Oh yeah, I used the plate thatgoes around the meter on the tank as a front to the new housing.

I went to a bike boneyard and got the tack cable from an 80's vintage Suzuki 3 cyl. bike which gives way more than enough length to get to the bars. In fact you have to be careful not to put to sharp a bend in the cable so as not to pinch it. Pour a little of our motor oil down the cable sleeve for lubrication and you're set to go.

You can see how it turned out in a couple of these pix.

Palidin, Looks good. Is that your bike? I would have figured the speedo cable would interfere with turning the handlebars.

66er, there are some ideas in the Technical section of this site. People looking for a way to have an odometer ended up with both. They use a Sigma bicycle speedometer. Check it out in Technical. If it looks ok to you, you can save some big money. Good luck.
