I got lazy fiddling with the special tool and used the old 90-degree twist check others also recommend. Now I read in a HD shop manual NEVER to twist a drive belt, bend it backwards or to a tighter radius than the smaller sprocket. Usual warnings about premature failure leading to loss of control etc. Anyway, thought I'd pass this snippet of service manual caution along.

I've learned as long as its not floppin around like a fish outta water, its tight enough. And now after having a couple rocks go thru my belt, even looser is tight enough.

Twisting a belt when theres not much length between pulleys will mess it up. Theres enough length between the sprockets its not hurting it. Not twisting it hard.

I'm sorry but, a stock LS has about as much power as a 1960 VW Bug. I don't see where the belt can't handle being twisted by your fingers. How many out there have broken belts? I'm not talking about what your cousin heard from his friends brother. Who has broken a belt? ::)

Is the cup half full or half empty? Sorry because I can't keep my mouth (really fingers) shut when I see some posts. The point is, the belt has to be pretty strong to handle the power delivery and I can't see where it can't handle being twisted by your fingers a bit. I think all the Harley warnings are typical of everything in our over litigated society.
