Title: check me
Post by Tjfisher on 10/24/10 at 04:01:11

ok so i put the savage back together finaly and i set the cam with everything open side cover etc. Ok, Now did i set this right ....
first set the motor to TDC per mark on the magneto drum thingie ,ok two set cam in with the alinment pin up ,set chain and bolted cam roled the motor bolted other side , at this point the timming should be correct the TDC lines up and the cams marks are flat to the head .
what in asking is this correct cause i really dont want to take this all back apart  :( .i have tryed to start her but i just had a few puffs no real start i was wondering if i was 1 stroke off somehow ?

next question
the decomp selenoid does it come on and stay on till the starter is released or does it pop on and off (durning start up not after ) and the starter doesnt sound like its able to turn the bike over but that could be low battery or this decomp sel issue
i have put the batttery on charge so it full and ready to start again but i dont want to mess anything up so ill wait for the some good input for anyone that has ideas

Thanks in advance
Tom

Snagged from OF's walkthru (which does a pretty good job of telling the story)
If you had the timing mark dead on and the cam as shown above, you should be good to go.  When I did mine {a long time ago} the marks weren't so dead on cause I was using the used cam chain.  So the mark was a little high on the taunt side of the chain.

decomp just comes on for 1/2 a second.  and if your battery doesn't turn it over strong, then there's no way it'll have juice for ol' sparky.

ok good i thought i had it right cause with that set up i would be TDC and on the compression stroke due to the cam lobes being down . As for the battery it was a fresh battery with just a standing charge not a trickled full charge which is what it is now ill try again later tonight after work maybe ill get lucky and she'll fire up
