Title: Fave Backyard Custom Style?
Post by PerrydaSavage on 10/22/10 at 11:17:56

In the motorcycle world, it seems as if the Backyard Custom can come in many guises; the classic Chopper, the Bobber, Street Tracker, Street Fighter, Cafe, etc. ... whats yer fave style of Backyard Custom and why? Feel free to post up a few pics for us all to drool over!

My tastes tend along the lines of the traditional Bobber, but I've grown to love the "Bratstyle" Street Trackers and even some of the Cafes! No time to throw up some pics right now, but will do so later ... Have fun!

I like rats.  Not the rats that people create that look like rats.  Those are not rats.  I like the rats that are motorcycles that keep running, working, no matter how they look.  A couple of my Telco friends:

Greg, works in Hawthorne Central Office:

The Saddlebags are military bags, original olive drab which can be seen in the inside parts, many years of California have faded to tan.  The tail bag came from who knows from, they are attached with the wire ties that are used to secure telephone cables.  The grips and levers had ends broken -- but they are still working.  And the tape duct?  That is the registration and insurance papers.

Ray works in the Wilmington Central Office.  His Honda has over 150,000 miles on it.  The Plexifairing broke when it was dropped.  It is now attached to the forks using telco waxed cable twine:

I bobbed my S40 on the cheap and am getting ready to turn my son's 83 Suzuki GS450E into a cafe racer. I really like the looks of the RYCA Cafe Racer but don't think that my knees and hips could take riding a bike like that. I like cafe racers as much as bobbers/choppers.

I'm strictly a cafe racer man ,sorry I just don't like bobbers, Anyway I always had cafe racers back in England, honestly they are quite comfortable, the more you ride the better ,I feel all tucked in and at one with my bike even the tank feels good between my knees, not as good as ....... better not go there. That Suzuki gs450e is ideal start taking pictures ,before, during, and after.

Here is a picture of the 450. We are still in the planning stages right now. My 17 year old son wants to repaint it first.

I have been looking on craig's list ,you just never know,I have an empty workshop that needs a bike it.

Mick, look for a Suzuki GS450GA which is an automatic or look for an older Honda with an automatic.

Well, I guess this is my favorite at the moment, since I had a hand it getting it ride-able -- my son's bike.  (Mine and hubby's along side)

Babyhog does your sons bike and yours sound much different and is the power any different between the two mufflers

I actually haven't ridden his except in a parking lot, so I can't speak to the power difference.  Soundwise, his is quite a bit louder with the stock pipe, after we drilled several holes in it.

I see that it the parents are expected to carry everything, since his bike has no bags.

That's too bad, I actually saw a GS450A on ebay today after reading the post by Bravo. First time I had ever seen/noticed one before.
