Title: Help!! Need to know my options!
Post by bluesavage218 on 10/07/10 at 10:07:10

I put my new straight drag bars on today. I cut them down to 25 in. Looks sweet but my controls wont fit. I need about an inch more of space to fit my front brake and reservoir onto the bars. I want to get new controls anyway but I'm not sure what to get or what will fit... Also is there anyway to relocate the brake fluid reservoir?

Sorry I'm not much help, but it reminds me of the saying "Measure twice, cut once!"  ;)

You're in trouble... :-?...

Cheapest easiest fix...  Buy new bars, and try again...

(you could shorten your grips,... if you have tiny hands)?...

one option you won't like...buy new bars and then put/layout where all the controls are...Then cut them down.

Sorry to hear that happened to you.

Cut a piece of 1 inch cold roll so that it is about 1 1/4 inches longer than the extension you need. Turn that 1 1/4 inch down in a lathe so that it is a tight interference fit to the inside of the bar.
Coat the inside of the bar and the turned down part with JB weld and pound it in.  This also has the benefit of being a bar end weight to lessen vibration.  Wipe off excess JB and Bob's your uncle, bars have been stretched to length.

BTW You do have a lathe don't you?  No? Then try this.
Cut sections of the pieces of bar that you already cut off to the length you want the bar to grow to. Get a piece of round stock of such diameter as will fit inside the bar. You may have to file to final fit.
JB as above and hammer them home.
Next time you will measure first won't you.

The bar end weights on my S50 add about 1.5" to each end.  They'll fit right into the end of 1" bars, then a screw expands an inner nut and they stay put.  I think C50's and M50's use the same thing.  I don't see any on ebay right now but they're are tons of custom bar ends that look like they would work and look good too.  They might make you glad you cut 'em short.

Figured out what I'm doing!!! You can buy what's called a throttle housing which takes care of not having to use the existing switch housing for the throttle. Then I can just relocate my kill and starter switches somewhere else and that will allow room for everything to fit on the bar. The length of the bar is perfect! It really captures the look I'm going for so that's why I don't want to go any longer. I'll keep you guys posted with pics and stuff soon. Thanks for all the input!

Ive got a secondary start switch mounted up under the frame, about where Jef Savage has his. But mine is tiny, out of a dead dvd player. It is connected between the 18 or 20 gauge red wire under the seat & the yellow/green stripe wire on the decomp timer. Only thing is, bump that switch & the engine spins over, even if the key is in your pocket.
