Title: copper washers?
Post by ebonysresearch on 10/05/10 at 05:41:56

anyone know the part numbers on the copper sealing washers that go under the head bolts the rocker cover bolts and other parts of the engine?  when I went to the dealer the parts manager didn't see them in his schematic...so I am not sure what and how many to get.  he said that if I brought them in he could match them though.  thanks.

measure the OD and ID of the washers you're looking for a head down to the local hardware store. $1 for a copper washer? Ef that.

I have been using the ones I get from True value hardware.
So long as the hole size is correct and the outside diameter is bigger than the nut, and the thickness is close to the same, copper is copper and they work just fine.  They are a lot cheaper than from the stealership.

eb,

If you're referring to part #27 on the following fiche:

http://fiche.ronayers.com/Index.cfm/Module/Main/TypeID/26/Type/Motorcycle/MakeID/2/Make/Suzuki/YearID/38/Year/1997/ModelID/6345/Model/LS650P_SAVAGE/GroupID/261334/Group/CYLINDER_HEAD

(P/N 09168-06023), that is actually not a simple copper washer.  It looks like this:

As you can see, it has a rubber component.  Costs about a buck or two.

IHTH someone!

Mine did not have the rubber even when they were new.
Since the head nuts are all inside the rocker cover any minute seepage from not having the rubber center will simply be mixed with all the oil inside the ricker box anyway so I do not see a problem with plain copper washers on the head bolts. The exception being the right front one under the infamous rubber plug.

Phel,

I was referring to the head cover bolt gaskets.

The head bolt washers are different.

Ah yes, the little ones that evaporate when you drop them.  They are capable of bouncing extremely long distances into dark and cluttered corners.
