Title: What is this windshield used for?
Post by digitalplumber on 10/02/10 at 19:24:02

Suzuki Custom Sport Windshield Boulevard S40 pt#990A0-70007 this obviously does not block any wind from the rider. Has anyone used this shield - anyone have any suggestions as to alternate mounting strategies?

That's the windshield I have on my 06.  It does block the wind, just not as well as a taller windshield would.  I'm 5'4" tall and want to get one that's another 2" higher so I don't have bugs plastered on my chin after every ride ;)

I can't see a single benfit for using this shield - I'll have to devise a way to mount it on the handlebars to make it useful. Looks cute, but it is decorative only  - non functional for the use it was intended.

Those small windshields do work they put more wind in your face,Keeps you cool .

Iif it's the factory sport sheild, it blocks about 90% of the wind on my '06. I am 6 ft and 250. Pretty good sail at 80mph. I take it off every spring when it warms up but the commute is not nearly as enjoyable as with it on. I get a little buffeting around the helmet but just enough to know it's there. Bike looks better without it but....

digitalplumber,

If you bought it and don't want it, I'll take it off your hands and pay for the shipping.

I use one on my current ride.  Keeps the wind off my chest but allows me to chew wind.  It also protects my digital speedo (mounted on the handlebars)

I could use another one for the "backup" Savage I hope to be buying soon.

I have one on my '07 and find it better than none. I am considering drilling two more holes and raising it up so that the current bottom holes become the top holes, and raising the headlight and signals as well. A larger one will act as a sail in any crosswind, and maybe lighten the front end at speed. Just the price you pay for having a bike that weighs 380 lb.

I had this on the bike I just got the other day. And for me it was horrible. It seemed to cause the wind to just blast me in the face more then no shield at all. Caught in the vortex I guess. Any thing over 40mph was not bearable.

Lower it as far as it'll go.   ;D

I was thinking that as well. But I wanted to ride as much as I could today. Instead of tinker ride tinker again. I just took it off and hit the road. I might play around with the hight and see if I can find a sweet spot.

It looks to be about the same high, maybe an inch taller, than the Flyscreen.  Verslagen and I sport National Cycle Flyscreens.  The little screens reduce the wind pressure on the body, reduce fatigue, without losing the bugs in the teeth.

As one who actually uses the factory windshield, I think it's great the bike is more stable in both head and crosswinds which we have lots of here in the So Cals high desert. Sure there is a little more wind and therefore noise in the helmet but if I want to avoid those things I would just take the 4Runner which I almost never do. But what do I know I just have one of em?

Ive ridden in crosswinds on this bike. Ive felt crosswinds drive the wheels out from under me on the Savage. My head stays in the same line down the road, the bike is effectively countersteered into a turn that keeps the general Course of the Savage & Passenger Projectile stable. I like the way the Savage handles a crosswind.

Much better than a Ford Van,, or a VW van,,
