Title: Remove belt to remove rear tire?
Post by Troublefunk on 09/30/10 at 09:00:45

Working on bikes or cars, you're always being faced with the question of how much force to apply. Does it need that much or will you break something?
I get the idea that when you all remove the rear tire, you just loosen up the bolts and slid it forward, and that creates enough slack in the belt to work it off. Is that right? Is it easy, or do you have to manhandle it? I got that far and it was not coming off easy.

If you're talking about the force needed to break the axle nut free I thought I would just about kill myself doing it...it was TIGHT!

About 90NM should be enough.

When I had mine off a couple years ago to fix the flat, I had to de-adjust those 2 nuts to allow the tire to go forward enough to get the belt off. I just marked down number of turns and it all worked out good and straight.

Had no problem getting the axle nut off, it's just trying to slide the wheel forward there's not enough slack in the belt to get it off. I did get it off, though, by pulling out the axle at this point. Then there was plenty of room.

Yeah kind of a balancing act, especially by yourself. I was surprised to learn that nothing binds the drum on one side and sprocket on the other to the wheel, other than being a tight fit once the axle is secure.

STOP!!!! You need to recheck how you put the rear wheel back on. There is a tab on the swingarm that has to slide into a slot on the rear brake assembly to keep the brake from spinning.

Someone help me with a pic/fiche...

EDIT: here is the fiche...slot on hub by #5 goes onto a tab on the swingarm
