Title: tailight/brake bulb
Post by drums1 on 09/25/10 at 14:57:05

Can a standard automotive 2057 be used for the brake/tail bulb? Mine burned out and I put a 2057 2-way bulb in and it seems to work. Same concept....tailight and brake light. 12v. Same size--fits right in there.

Sounds like you answered your question ;) Yes it is the same as an 1157.

so far anytime anything has burnt out on my bike (really just one front turn signal so far) i just drove my bike to the closest autozone, popped out the bulb and asked if they had "one of these". i even use the same trick at hardware stores for screws...

haven't had any problems yet.

It's a newer style(newer cars) bulb,that supposedly burns cooler.

OK I was just wondering because the number on the bulb I took out was different. It wasn't an 1157 either. It says "Life 12v23/8w". I just wanted to make sure I'm not gonna fry something.

Has anyone had any experience with the brake bulbs that rotate as a 12 led taillight and flash twice a second as a brake light? They are pricey at around $20 and are approved for offroad and show use only. They replace 1157 bulbs.

1157 is a brass base. 2057 is plated which is supposed to be more corrosion resistant. Otherwise all is the same.

The chase their tail LED bulbs are a waste of money. Short life span. I drive a Peterbilt for a living, last year all of our equipments was switched to LEDs, this year it is all going back to incandescent lighting. Normal lights have proven to be brighter, more durable, 10X less expensive, and when we are parked in the piers we don't catch the African and Eastern-bloc born drivers stealing them.

Buy a good standard bulb (German, American or Japanese made).

Thanks, WD. I'll skip the LED tail chasers.
